Foot Corns: Causes, Symptoms & Homeopathic Treatment

By Dr. Anisha · 25 April 2026

A corn is a small, thickened area of skin that develops in response to repeated pressure or friction, most often on the feet. While often dismissed as a minor cosmetic issue, corns can be persistent and, in many cases, keep returning even after surgical removal.

Causes

  • Ill-fitting footwear — shoes that are too tight, too loose, or have high heels concentrate pressure on specific points
  • Repeated friction or pressure — from walking patterns, foot structure, or occupational demands
  • Bony deformities — bunions, hammertoes, or other structural changes that shift how weight is distributed
  • Thin or sensitive skin — some individuals form corns more readily than others under the same pressure

Symptoms

  • A small, hardened, thickened patch of skin, often with a defined core
  • Tenderness or pain when pressure is applied
  • Skin that appears shiny, dry, or flaky around the corn
  • Recurrence at the same site after trimming or removal

Why Corns Come Back

Cutting or surgically removing a corn addresses the visible thickened skin, but not the underlying friction pattern or the body’s tendency to form hardened skin in response to it. This is why corns often reappear at the same spot — a purely local treatment doesn’t change the constitutional tendency.

Homeopathic Approach

Homeopathic treatment for corns looks at the individual’s overall skin tendency alongside the corn itself. Commonly indicated remedies include:

  • Antimonium crudum — a leading remedy for corns and calluses, especially thick, horny skin worse from pressure
  • Ranunculus bulbosus — for painful, burning corns
  • Silicea — for corns with a tendency toward slow healing and recurring hardened skin
  • Ferrum picricum — specifically indicated for corns on the soles of the feet
  • Graphites — for thick, cracked skin alongside corn formation

A Real Case

One of our patients had a foot corn that recurred even after a previous allopathic surgical removal. With homeopathic treatment addressing the underlying tendency, the corn resolved without any further surgical intervention. See the before-and-after photos →
